Cinnamon roll

When Mr T asked me what smells so good I told him that it must come from neighbours’ apartment. He did not look disappointed, he just said that he’s curious what they’re making. I was smiling inside, because the smell was coming out of our oven and I knew that what’s inside will make him very happy. There’s something magical about cinnamon, the smell, taste and that it goes so well with so many different kinds of food. Especially with baked goods.

Before you speak to me about your religion, first show it to me in how you treat other people; before you tell me how much you love your God, show me in how much you love all His children; before you preach to me of your passion for your faith, teach me about it through your compassion for your neighbors. In the end, I’m not as interested in what you have to tell or sell as I am in how you choose to live and give Cory Booker  (via uni-tea)

This week, two great friends (Lauren and Sally) and I challenged ourselves to spend less than $2 a day on food and drink. It was an experience, to say the least, but the greatest thing I took from it was gratitude. You cannot fully appreciate the accessibility, diversity and quality of food we have access to unless you deliberately go without those luxuries.
I’d like to think that although it was short, that I learnt a lot in that time and will come through the other side with a clearer understanding of poverty, even if only a little. And we’ve been overwhelmed by the support and generosity received from our friends and family, both monetarily and otherwise. If you’d like to see how we did it, please check out our fundraising page! https://www.livebelowtheline.com.au/team/l-a-s-live-below-the-line

You know that moment when you’re reading a book and you just have to stop and bite your lip and squeal or sigh or close your eyes and wrinkle your nose and forehead and press the book against your heart and just like sit there and try to soak up the gorgeous literature via osmosis?

That’s my favorite part of reading.

It’s a terrible thing, I think, in life to wait until you’re ready. I have this feeling now that actually no one is ever ready to do anything. There is almost no such thing as ready. There is only now. And you may as well do it now. Generally speaking, now is as good a time as any.  Hugh Laurie

I firmly believe in small gestures: pay for their coffee, hold the door for strangers, over tip, smile or try to be kind even when you don’t feel like it, pay compliments, chase the kid’s runaway ball down the sidewalk and throw it back to him, try to be larger than you are— particularly when it’s difficult. People do notice, people appreciate. I appreciate it when it’s done to (for) me. Small gestures can be an effort, or actually go against our grain (“I’m not a big one for paying compliments…”), but the irony is that almost every time you make them, you feel better about yourself. For a moment life suddenly feels lighter, a bit more Gene Kelly dancing in the rain.  Jonathan Carroll
